One definitely does not have a problem to communicate with Lebanese people since the majority speaks the major two languages French and English in addition to the local language Lebanese. In fact, Arabic is the official language, but French is commonly used, especially in government and among the upper class. A number of government and private universities teach in French. English is particularly used as the language of business...

Arabs place great importance on civility and it is rare to see interactions between people that do not begin with greetings, enquiries into the other's health... As an foreigner, you are not expected to know all the ins and outs, but if you make the effort to come up with the right expression at the appropriate moment, you will be respected for it. In fact, like in other countries, any effort to communicate with the locals in their own language will be well rewarded.
